Meet The Author

Kayleigh J

For as long as I can remember, I thought I had the worst hair.

I was the girl constantly comparing my hair to everyone else's.

Mine never seemed to do what theirs did. It was thick, kinky, frizzy and impossible to control. I remember thinking, "Why can't my hair just behave like everyone else's?" I honestly believed everyone else had good hair... except me.

So I did what a lot of us do.

I attacked it with heat. I chased every new product that promised to fix it. I wished it was smoother, shinier... just different. And on most days, I'd scrape it back into a ponytail and hope nobody noticed.

The funny thing is, I went on to become a hairdresser.

I've now spent over 20 years behind the chair, and if there's one thing I've learnt, it's this:

The problem usually isn't your hair.

It's that nobody ever taught you how to understand it.

Every week I'd hear women apologising for their hair.

"My hair's just awful."
"It's impossible."
"I wish I had her hair instead."

And every week I'd find myself saying the same thing...

Your hair isn't the problem. You just haven't been shown what your hair needs.

That's why I created these guides.

I wanted to take everything I've learnt over two decades as a hairdresser and make it available to everyone, not just the people who sit in my salon chair.

My goal has never been to help you chase perfect hair.

I actually think the pressure to have "perfect" hair is exhausting.

I want to help you understand your hair. To stop fighting against it. To learn what it needs at different times, build routines that actually work, and finally feel proud of the hair you already have.

Because healthy hair looks different on everyone.

And when you stop comparing your hair to somebody else's and start understanding your own... everything changes.

I'm so glad you're here, and I can't wait to help you fall in love with your hair too.
